Notes

Child Development is study of a child's development between the ages of 0-5 years old. In school we follow the WJEC Home Economics (Child Development) course. The subject is divided into four compulsory core areas:
1. Social background, development and emotional development.
2. Food for health
3.Physical Development
4. Intellectual Development.

Coursework is an important element in Child development and is worth 70% of the final GCSE grade.
40% of the coursework is a child study. It should 2000-3000 in length. It must demonstrate an observation of a child over an extended period of time. It is vital that during this you engage in active learning with the child and use the theory form class to back up your observations.

30% of the coursework is a Board Prescribed Task. It is a controlled conditions piece of work. It has to be completed in 10 hours of class time. The question to be answered is set by the exam board. It is a practical task, backed up with folder work on 5 pages of A3 paper.
