Initial Ideas
Intial ideas are your first designs of your product. You should ensure that all design work is labelled fully, like the examples shown on this page. Note, the example to left also has a title letting the marker know what the picture is representing.
3D design can be difficult to achieve sometimes in food, but the example right shows a flapjack with milk chocolate buttons. You can see from the picture that colour has been used to present the buttons and the varying colours of the melting chocolate.

If possible you should try and develop your design work. If you draw a picture, even if you feel youc ould improve it in some way you must keep the picture and draw the even better one with it. This is called development. This is a high level skill.

All design work should be coloured. This can be done through a variety of mediums including pencil colours, crayons, pastels, or felts. Sometimes you need to try different methods in order to find the one that looks the best. Some methods give different end results and you should be looking for the one that looks as close to the ingredients you are trying to draw. Eg. Pencil colours are better for sponges, where felt pens are better for jelly beans.
